On the occasion of the brand’s 40th anniversary, designer Wes Gordon presented a spring-summer 2022 collection celebrating the unmistakable Carolina Herrera style.
This time, the inspiration came from a completely unexpected place; several months ago in fact, Gordon received a message on Instagram from a stranger, who showed him his collection of the most salient moments in the history of Carolina Herrera. The album, complete with fabrics, reviews of past shows and photos, represents a real archive of the 1983 collection.
The careful work of Wes Gordon merges into a series of ample and structured evening gowns, absolutely elegant. White and black are the dominant colors, along with shiny silk and voluminous silhouettes.
The exercise with oversized volumes and proportions also extends to accessories; maxi circle belts, equally oversized earrings with a surrealist touch, give more dynamism to the garments.
To further enrich the glamorous effect, several details appear, including puffed sleeves, bows that lengthen the silhouette, and a delicate tulle.
The prints reflect what has distinguished the Herrera style for years; floral theme and pois blend together to enrich the same fabric, and are accompanied by checked patterns, along with vibrant colors such as orange, shocking pink, blue and bright red, even combined together on an evening gown.
The collection of Wes Gordon has managed to celebrate the style of the maison through the reproduction of some iconic elements, but has also been able to orient it towards the future, through oversized details and the game between the overlapping of prints and volumes.
