“When we finally get out of this—and we will get out of it sooner or later—we’ll be ready to enjoy life to the full again. To travel, to party, to meet with friends, to get our freedom back”, with these words full of hope, Veronica Etro announced the 2021 pre-fall collection, already giving a hint of what this collection might be, an ode to better times that are ahead of us and that certainty will mark more joyful moments.
The collection manifests this desire in every detail, distancing itself from the stay-at-home outfits that many designers recommended during this pandemic. Veronica Etro still believes women should feel good wearing clothes and the role of fashion, especially during these rather dark and hard times, is to make people have fun with peculiar combinations and vibrant colours.
“Etro has always been about a natural sense of ease, so I didn’t have to change my perspective much. It’s more about celebrating the freedom we’re craving to go back to. I thought about the future, about the clothes we’ll feel good in, and how we’ll enjoy getting dressed.”, she said to Vogue.
Therefore, this collection is all about the bohemian free-spirited mind of which Etro has always been a pioneer, with paisley printed long dresses, velvet suits, leopard-printed denim with a 70s’ rock n’roll vibe, long kimonos, jacquard-knitted cardigans, all of which are fluidly suitable both for men and women as well as the floral-printed shirts and mini dresses.
It feels like we are suddenly being brought back to a live concert in the joyful air of summertime and we’re all up for it.
