As we anticipated a few weeks ago, Valentino divided the presentation of its Couture Collection into two distinct events. The first, within the Paris Couture Week calendar, is only a short presentation, which gave us a first suggestion of the mood of the collection. The real showcase event will be held on July 21st at the Cinecittà studios in Rome, and it will be available for streaming worldwide.
The title of the short movie, Of Grace and Light, created in collaboration with Nick Knight, and the location of the event itself, make us believe that the presentation will owe to the cinematic aesthetic: Cocteau said that cinema ink is light. Lighting is also an essential part of the digital world, which is made up of pixels and light pulses.
Another essential element of this video, and of the event that awaits us on July 21st, is movement. Piccioli himself said that Couture “lives” only when there is movement, and the movement in this case depends on the human being, either man or woman, who gives the life force to the fabric. As far as we can see in the video, it is very difficult to define whether the figure is human or not, whether it is digitally created, male or female. We note only its fluid movement, precisely grace, which is ultimately the only attribute on which the Piccili/Knight conversations insist on.
