“LFW Fall 2020: Molly Goddard”

Fall ’20 by Molly Goddard is inspired by the designer herself and her childhood, spent in the cool late 90s London. It is the designer herself who explains it, helped by some photos of the time where she is portrayed with her father at a flea market in Portobello Road. The photo explains why Goddard’s style is so peculiar and we realized then that it is exactly the “adult” version of her childish age – a living symbol of the over-the-top and irreverent style of the English capital, now as 30 years ago.
Even the childish and playful spirit is well present in every collection and is exactly what allows her to always be herself, whatever she does. For this collection indeed, Goddard experimented for the first time with menswear, and did not disappoint any expectations.

The clothes, so stylistically recognizable, are combined with coloured cardigans and black chunky boots. We especially like the transparent taffeta top that lets you see an embroidered cardigan underneath, worn with a pair of checked trousers.
The bowed benies are fun and decidedly eye catching, while the bags with applications look like the scale reproduction of the bags little girls use to play “little women”. Certainly, in addition to a style lesson, this show reminded us that taking things too seriously is not always the best policy.
