The story behind Preen by Thornton Bregazzi Spring 2021 collection is probably one of the best and most significant ones of the entire season. The creative duo, wife and husband, made the collection together with their young children, in the spare time between homeschooling and family moments. It was not only a very much needed solution (to keep them busy) but also a way for the designers to re-discover what it means to work and create from scratches.
There were no new fabrics, no daily inspirations coming from work and office life. There was only the dimension of their home in Suffolk, with old objects and utensils, broken stuff forgotten all around, the garden during spring and shapeless amount of past works, abandoned styles and leftover fabrics. It was enough though, and together with a couple of additional members to the staff and a good amount of energy, the collection has been presented in time. It is beautiful and preserves the usual Brit, soft and dark allure. Dresses and tops, in cotton and damask, are joyful of flounces. Tailor trousers match patchwork sweaters which bring together different fabrics and prints: the result is so nice it makes you smile instantly. There is a pink padded jacket that is just beautiful and earrings are already a must – made by the sisters with pieces of broken pottery, glue and golden paint.
This is the re-start that awaits us and we hope to have the luck to take it easily as Thornton Bregazzi suggested us. To put the pieces together will be not easy, but children’s eyes are so fresh they will lead us in the right direction.
