The documentary film dedicated to Martin Margiela, one of the pillars of fashion, is scheduled for tomorrow 10th of April 2020 on the iTunes platform. For the first time the Belgian designer will recount with his own voice the highlights of his life and career, from his beginnings as an assistant to Jean Paul Gautier, to the creative direction of Hermès, up to the radical turning point with his brand Maison Margiela.
Through its provocative and avant-garde forms, Martin Margiela has created a new paradigm of style, often advancing in his collections the deconstruction of the dress and thus presenting an innovative and experimental way of seeing and doing fashion.
Throughout an excursus that will examine some evocative pieces of his style taken from 41 collections, the documentary will offer a glimpse from which to admire all of the designer’s creativity contained in notes, drawings and personal observations.
The documentary was one of the most expected of 2020, joining the highly anticipated Calendar Girl (which release date is still unknown) by Christian D. Brunn and dedicated to Ruth Finley, the entrepreneur who founded the Fashion Calendar, giving a radical twist in the organisation and to the collective imagination of the annual programs of the fashion world.
Throughout the month of April, by purchasing on the Maison Margiela website you contribute to their donation for the OTB foundation. In fact, the brand decided to donate 10% of the e-commerce collections for the fight against Covid-19. The shipments are also all free, but may be delayed.
