MFW FW21/22: the passing of the seasons according to Missoni

For the fall/winter 2021 collection, Angela Missoni has reconsidered the concept of time, especially the time of fashion, its rhythms, the dear old seasons and the new narrative and performative modes of the fashion discourse. The result is a collection that is well anchored to the times we are living in, but at the same time is outside of it, thanks to the silhouettes that recall past years, especially the ’90s.

As pointed out by the designer at the head of the famous fashion house, the lockdown and pandemic forced us to deal with what we had, and look to the future with what we have now. Surely, of the fashion we knew will remain very little.

Fashion at the dawn of a day away from the pandemic, is always the same for Missoni but it is also different. The colors, the zigzag textures, the precious fabrics and the workmanship, blend with the urban style, of which the designer captures some detail in jackets, sneakers and accessories. The idea of seasonality fades away, replaced by a sustainable approach and the idea of something that remains, like a memory.

The strong pieces of the collection are many, but the soft cardigans and sweaters for a comfortable fashion stand out, along the evening dresses; they go down soft and long, their plasticity is also suitable for the day. The colored cardigans – colour remains an essential element in Missoni’s dictionary- the stripes and zigzag motifs return on the elastic, sporty-inspired fabrics.
