Milan Fashion Week: Sunnei SS21

Sunnei is one of the most promising Italian fashion brands approaching the scene today. It has a good following on Instagram, smart ideas, new and unconventional, and it had a good impact with its latest collection in July, presented on a dedicated platform where buyers could change fabrics and colours of each garments depending on their taste. The Spring 2021 has been presented in Milan in a vaguely surreal setting. The runways was indeed a huge open space covered with a waxed blue fabrics. It was not an apocalyptic vision like Balenciaga’s fashion show some seasons ago, on the contrary. The group of models, first walking alone and then, on the final, together as a crowd (but socially distanced!) gave a sensation of hope, as if the new generation of Italian fashion was walking towards the bright future.

The collection is both womenswear and menswear: every look could be indeed switched. Silhouettes  are wide and squared but soft fabrics made them flexible. There are plenty of technic cloths, knitwear and a touch of leather – on the long coat for example! Jewelries and accessories are colourful and over the top. They all – necklaces, earrings, sandals, boots (for the rain?) but also bags are big and catchy. Comfort first of all, together with fun.The shoulder bag with the wide colored leather handle is going to be the object of desire.

The creative duo behind Sunnei is very good at marketing and advs, but they have also plenty to things to say. The same things the Italian young artistic community cannot way to hear. A new way of thinking about the body – not only the female one but everybody’s – and a new way to dress it. There are not imposed shapes, but every piece plays with volumes freely and, in this way, body and clothes formed one another.
