New York Fashion Week: Christian Siriano SS21

Among the other inspirations Christian Siriano collected while preparing the Spring 2021 collection, there is him himself, his childhood and the fascination fashion has always exercised over him. The designer explained, after the show, that during the lockdown he had the chance to look back at his path – as a person and as a designer – gaining a new self-consciousness. In addition to that, a list of movies: The Wizard of Oz, Clueless and Troop Beverly Hills. They give us a funny and careless idea of fashion. The Spring 2021 collection is indeed dedicated to who wish to have fun with clothes, changing them and changing with them during the process. “I wanted this to be and escape for everybody”.

Bright colours, artistic prints, exuberant shapes. There i a long black dress, tight on the body, with the word “vote” printed on it in different spots – mask and hat included. The show has been a crazy party, where the winner was the one able to show off the most. Maybe, the midi yellow dress with applied flowers won, or maybe it was the lace jumpsuit with exaggerated white crepe cuffs. Or, again, the real winner was Coco Rocha, not only because of her beauty – wrapped up in a bright red dress which enlightens her pregnancy with joy – but also because of the swim she decided to take in the fountain, at the end of the show.

A final note to the casting. Inclusivity is a big point for Siriano and this show underlined it clearly. Models are of various ethnicity and various sizes, joyful in their outfit made to make them feel good. This is for sure a powerful way  to close the New York Fashion Week with a great deal of hope.
