Phillip Lim decided to exhibit his Fall 2020 collection with an intimate presentation in the brand’s showroom. Doors were open to all who might be interested and the invitation was spread on social networks. It looks like a small thing, it actually is a step towards the changing of an entire world.
A lot has been said and done at New York Fashion Week this year, and even more in Copenhagen a few days ago. The radicalism of Scandinavian countries, however, does not arouse too much surprise, but that things happen in New York has a completely different weight. Because it means that something is really changing.
Lim suggests that fashion must return to dialogue with the public, and it is not just a speech about inclusivity and free expression as sponsored on social networks. It is a real invitation to intimacy: seeing things from closer, touching them, experiencing them, having time to get back if needed.
The collection itself is human-sized – city-sized. Simple, combinable garments dominated by soft colors such as gray, camel, white and black. Here and there some coloured garments to break the look. The collection is basically all daywear, because tomorrow’s fashion, according to Lim and many like him, is not the fashion of pomp and waste, but the one that allows you to feel yourself in everyday life.
