Marc Jacobs show his new collection on Park Avenue Armory last night. Perhaps it would be better to say that he “performed”. He wasn’t on stage, of course, but the show, with dancers and plays of light, brought parts of his personal story and his person as a creative to the stage. The collection, on one hand, celebrated the essential American aesthetic – linear, clean, not exaggerated – on the other Marc Jacobs’ work itself, with particular reference to the 90s.
The result can be defined as a good synthesis of past years, experiences, culture, art, everything that culminates in 2020 and the need for change that we feel in the air now. Just as synthetic are the looks themselves. Plain, essential and linear. Luxury is in the colours and fabrics. Evening dresses are more elaborate. However, the garment that dominated the collection is undoubtedly the A-shaped coat, available in various colors and various lengths, with four buttons or double-breasted, with a V or boat neck. Together with knee-highs tight and flat Mary Jane it acquires the tones of the little nice girl.
New York fashion week couldn’t have a better end.
