Oscar de la Renta’s Fall/Winter 2020 collection was presented in the (late) evening. Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia wanted to create a party collection, where the main focus was to simply have fun. All the outfits they show indeed, most of which are cocktail dresses and special occasion ones, were sparkling and colourful. Even when it came to total black looks – the color of absolute elegance – the impact was very high and the fabric bright.
If the fulcrum of all these colours and skilful combinations of them is the joie de vivre, the two designers took then inspiration from many different things, including some great painters of the past. From Caravaggio, in the “still life” prints of some dresses on a black background, to Van Gogh, in the incredible long dress embroidered with his post-impressionistic skies.
Along with the elegance, however, there were also some details of a completely different spirit, such as the varnish leather boots with an edgy black rubber sole. Details that however disappeared in the grand finale: silver and bronze fringes, draped dresses in velvet and coloured feathers, all a real hymn to fun.
