“NYFW Fall 2020: Rodarte”

Rodarte, for the autumn winter ’20 season, show us the story of a metamorphosis. The collection evolves indeed and, from a decidedly light beginning, ends up representing a mysterious creature, devoted to the kingdom of darkness, whom origins are unknown. Laura and Kate Mlleavy took inspiration from the Dracula saga and added their personal vision to the tradition: here the protagonist is a mix of sensuality and privacy, she is a flawless-looking young woman who, however, hides a dark side.

As we said, the initial looks are rather joyful. Polka dots, flowers, balloon sleeves and the baby blue silk of some dresses whose shape recall those of the 1940s and are very elegant. When the metamorphosis towards the evil side begins, the tones become decidedly more dramatic and the dark colours are accompanied by denser and more intricate textures, such as the brocade look. The black satin dress with the hooded cape is, in our opinion, the culmination of the transformation. Going forward, however, the collection does not lose colour and imagination, but plays precisely on the sensuality and privacy of a magical creature.
