Virgine Viard is doing an excellent job at Maison Chanel. Not that before we had doubts, but this Fall 2020 gave us the final proof. Something in her creative approach – the depth, the research, the structure of the garments, always so soft on the female body – brings her very close to the figure of the legendary Coco, with all the differences that almost 100 years of history in the middle require.
At the same time, however, Viard takes inspiration from his personal teacher, Lagerfeld, and from the elegance that has always distinguished him. It is she herself who tells it. One of the leading motifs of the collection is the image of the horse, which appears several times in the looks, and which unites together the idea of freedom, which Viard is inspired by for the entire collection, and Chanel itself, who had a personal interest in the matter. On the other hand, technical riding clothing has something liberating for the women of the time.
So, the outfits are layered, interesting in shapes, combinations of fabrics and colours. There are whites and blacks, but also lime, different shades of red and pink, and a touch of gray. The jewels are equally important, with coloured precious stones and solid structure. Our must-have pieces, the wide trousers with snap buttons on the side, and the riding ties, in black satin, very large and stapled. Even white shorts are a piece to keep an eye on!
