“PFW Fall 2020: Valentino”

The path to inclusion is a long way made of attempts. There is no “right” way to do it, but many different ways. Pier Paolo Piccioli at Valentino is trying different approaches indeed, to find out what works best. Already in past seasons, his cast of models was made up of different nationalities, but now it gets even more enriched, with curvy and trans models among others. Once again Valentino tells us how vast the world is, how many we are and how different from each other. This collection, which appears decidedly more serious, clean and minimalistic than usual, enhances every individuality. This is precisely the goal after all: black clothes, bold and tailored flawless cuts, few frills, few accessories. There is a canvas and then there is the woman above it.

Trousers are tailored and wide, soft, while bodices and most of the dresses are thigh, with seams that perfectly follow the natural lines and design them on the outside. Some items are also transparent, such as the very fine mesh tops and lace blouses. The leather dresses, both mini and midi, with semi-structured bodice and bra, are beautiful and decidedly new in the aesthetics of Piccioli. Colour eventually come, in pills, on accessories but also on some clothes. The only decoration is floral and a very light animal print.
