Jil Sander’s Pre Fall 2021 collection has been shot, in 43 looks, in the Milanese apartment of the Meier, designers and couple. The setting is crystal clear: a white wall, sometimes a black and white tiled floor, a touch of colours, given by the filtered light and by the garments themselves. The mood is the usual one, chez Jil Sander: a chic intellectualism which speaks through linear and smart looks, very modern indeed. As much as the bright colours interrupt the otherwise impeccable cleannesses of the shoot, so the outfits are enlightened by new details, just small touches, that have the power to revitalize and warm up the whole.
This has been, after all, the goal of the Meier. Fashion cannot solve our problems – despite its power and importance in society – but it can surely make us feel lighter. As Luke Meier said, “if putting on something beautiful elevates our mood a little […], that’s then us doing a good job”. The Pre Fall 2021 does exactly so. There are some amazingly tailored blazers and coats, wide and smooth skirts, soft dresses and knits, whose diagonal cuts make super interesting. Trousers are something to really save in our wishlist: light and embracing, they open up in wide cuts on the feet, making the silhouette slender and tapered.
There is as well a sporty touch: a bit more elegant version of the leisurewear which has been the very protagonist of our lockdowns. If we really do not want to let go of our comfort in the future (lucky, I would say), let’s then make it good looking at least. Jewels and shoes are eye-catching. Futuristic boots, pointed loafers and listed sandals are basically all we need to go through the year safely – and stylish-y. Jewels are bold and gold. We particularly love the ones looking like golden ribbon used to wrap Christmas presents, because of their precious look and funny appearance.
