The 2021 Resort Collection by JW Anderson engages critics and buyers in a tactile and imaginative game. Fashion is increasingly experiential, why not take full advantage of the special situation we find ourselves in, in order to explore innovative display methods? And, if everybody is talking about digital, with augmented reality and short movies as favorite media, JW Anderson thought of something completely different. takes another direction. He sent his clients a box inside which the ′′pieces′′ are found to compose and experiment the collection as they please. Not only looks’ photographs, but also small sample bags made in paper and masks with models’ faces to be used freely on the pictures, pieces of fabric to be felt under the fingertips and dried flowers to be added at will.
The discovery process is the same that the designer experimented himself during the creation of the garments. In isolation and far from both his team and the utensils, he had to reinvent himself and, as he explains in the video of presentation, to go back to his years at school, where he worked with his hands and with what was available. In the same way, the customer’s discovery of the collection is designed to be personal and relaxed, to be enjoyed with coffee in the morning, the designer proposes.
The two collections is very relaxed and fluid on the body. There are no rigid or constricting fabrics but rather dresses and suits dall down gently. There are playful details, such as applied pompoms or the prints themselves, with contrasting pockets and lapels. The contrasts are the protagonists of the patchwork suits as well, such as the one in different shades of safari beige, with lapels in shiny black silk.
