The Resort 2021 collection by Off-White is rather a declaration of intent. Abloh himself told the press that, for him, the role of designers today (and on closer inspection in any other era) is much more than designing clothes. It is a social and political position, as is the creation of possible future worlds – which are always better than the world we live in today.
The resort then takes up the slogan already used for the menswear collection “I support young black businesses”, which is printed on accessories and t-shirts, and which also becomes a real fact, since Abloh recently founded Virgil Abloh™ “Post-Modern” Scholarship Fund, in favor of emerging talents of African descent. The first example worked on the styling of the collection, Ib Kamara, with whom Abloh hopes to establish a profitable and long lasting relationship.
As always, Abloh takes full advantage of the imagery of street style and hip hop. His ability to translate this world into tailoring is one of his (many) strengths. The prints are particularly interesting, as are the blatantly feminine touches, including the pink midi dress and the bow mules.
