Roksanda Ready-to-Wear SS22: fashion in movement

The spring-summer 2022 collection according to Roksanda is a celebration of movement. The clothes are presented through the experimentation of a new way of presenting a fashion creation. Dance, in fact, is what inspired the designer, but also the means through which the collection is offered to the public.

Roksanda Ilinčić is always inspired by the new, and in this case, dance was an art form not yet explored in her collections. The models are crystallized in moving images, and the garments seem to draw an extra boost from this representative choice. They seem designed precisely to follow the body in its movements.

“I always try to capture the spirit and the mood of the time we live in,” explained Roksanda referring to the new collection. “Since I started designing the collection, there have been lots of different movements from where we are”; the designer has titled the collection Women in Motion, focusing on how the dress – through fluid silhouettes- can express the idea of change, of mutability.

Once again, Roksanda collaborated with Holly Blakey on choreography; the intent was to arouse multiple emotions, all of which have united us in this difficult historical moment. The colour palette, together with the dance steps, conveys joy through the bright shades and courageous combinations.

There’s bright red, shocking pink, night blue and brown, pale pink and chartreuse green. The alternation and the mixture of colors perhaps wants to remember the swing of emotions to which we have been subjected in these last few months.

Very interesting are also the references to the book of essays by Joan Didion of 1968. Some of Slouching Towards Bethlehem’s passages are applied to some fabrics and then covered with paint like a graffiti.
