Zalando launched Pre-Owned, the online space dedicated to recycled fashion, already available in Spain and Germany. Next month, Belgium, Poland, the Netherlands, and France will join.
The European e-tailer had already announced its future launch in February, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, the project has been stalled for a few months, which has helped to further calibrate the paradigms of sustainability and the budget-conscious principle that this space is carrying.
Upstream of the decision to launch Pre-owned, there is a clear reading of market trends in the direction of recycled and sustainable clothing, to which the Millennials, according to data, would be the ones most interested. As company’s VP of Recommerce Torben Hansen explains: “[… ] At the same time, customers are missing an easy and reliable service that combines it all: effortless trading-in of items they no longer wish to wear, and an enjoyable online shopping experience for pre-owned fashion. With the launch of pre-owned, Zalando is the first fashion platform to offer such a seamless solution and tackle these customer needs at scale”.
The shopping experience begins with the upload of the Fashion Store, customers can have all their previous purchases made on Zalando at hand and they can also insert other items purchased elsewhere ready to be traded. You can then choose whether to receive the gift card of Zalando or to donate to charity the proceeds obtained. All items already worn inserted in the platform will be evaluated and refreshed where necessary. Orders will be shipped with a packaging made of recycled paper.
