Veja x Rick Owens: the sustainable capsule collection

Since 2005 French brand Veja founded by François-Ghislain Morillon and Sèbastien Kopp is based on research and exuberant creativity, offering sportive sneakers to the maximum of sustainability and transparency. The origin of the collaboration with American designer Rick Owens, famous for his avant-garde collections, was born from a list of eco-sustainable ingredients that prompted the designer to advance a collaboration with the brand.

At the heart of the capsule collection, we can find indeed a series of ingredients that leave nothing to the imagination: banana oil, rice skins, sugar cane, ingredients that clearly indicate the green orientation of the collection. “I have no authority to promote sustainability, but I support the idea of a careful lifestyle and planning for the future with a gentler thought. This, for me, is a first step”, declared Rick Owens about his choice to work on this capsule.

The collection consists of sneakers available in three colors, ranging from black to beige through the nuances of butter. They have no seams, they are breathable, equipped with an organic sole and they are ultimately made up of 45% of the ingredients already cited. The upper part of the shoe is made of a Brazilian natural rubber L-FOAM and the shape is given by a 3D mesh made of recycled plastic bottles.

The collaboration reveals the will of reconsidering the elements of nature and its products, through an action of rewriting the creative process that is at the heart of fashion making. A new model that starts from nature, which respects its elements, by also enriching fashion of a new awareness and new tools.
