At the beginning of summer, the coronavirus pandemic had heavily affected the United States, which recorded one of the highest numbers of infections in the world. Lately, however, it seems that the situation, still very far from normal, is different from what could have been expected. The infection rate in New York has dropped to 1%, while schools and gyms are in the process of reopening.
In this more optimistic scenario, people are starting to think about the musical events that traditionally mark the calendar of celebrities and artists.
August 30 is in fact the day dedicated to the MTV Music Awards, which this year will be celebrated live, in different locations in the New York neighborhoods.
The joint statement from MTV and the Barclays Center tempestively arrived; “The 2020 VMAs will be held on Sunday, August 30 and pay homage to the incredible resiliency of New York with several outdoor performances around the City with limited or no audience, adhering to all state and city guidelines.”
The return to the official venue of the event, the Barclays Center, is scheduled for 2021. Although the locations have not yet been revealed, we can already be satisfied with a few names among the guests. Keke Palmer will host the evening, which will be attended by BTS, Lady Gaga, Doja Cat, The Weeknd, Miley Cyrus, CNCO, Maluma, Roddy Ricch, and many others.
Miley Cyrus will debut with her new single “Midnight Sky”; Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande are at the top of the nominations with 9 titles each, followed by Billie Eilish and The Weeknd.
It will certainly be a completely new event, as indeed most of the events in the entertainment world at the time of COVID-19, and there will certainly be surprises. A preview? MTV has decided to add two new awards: Best Music Video From Home and Best Quarantine Performance.
We also can’t wait to take a look at the outfits, what about you?
