Chinese Designer Jinyan Yu Debuts at Milan Design Week with “Liquid Aesthetics” Redefining Digital Fashion
Young 3D-printing designer Jinyan Yu captivated global audiences at the April 2025 Milan Design Week with her groundbreaking “Liquid Digital Aesthetics” collection, earning acclaim from international design academia and industry leaders. Her avant-garde concepts and masterful digital craftsmanship are redefining the expressive boundaries of digital fashion.
Jinyan Yu, a graduate of London College of Fashion (UAL) and the University of Manchester, has long pioneered the fusion of digital fabrication and fashion art. Her showcase at the joint exhibition by Nanjing University of the Arts and Nanjing KENYO Digital Material Technology Research Institute Co., Ltd. featured her signature exploration: “Liquid Digital Aesthetics.”

The collection revolutionizes digital manufacturing in fashion. Her centerpiece Metal Tide art mask merges parametric modeling with gradient resin casting, transforming industrial materials into fluid visual poetry. Complementing this, the Ripple bracelet series integrates 47 precision hinges within flexible metal structures, demonstrating exceptional craftsmanship and wearability.

Jinyan Yu’s structural innovations extended to functional accessories. Two 3D-printed handbags drew significant attention: one achieving a 2.3kg load capacity at just 0.8cm thickness through honeycomb lattice engineering; another featuring magnetic modular components for customizable aesthetics – seamlessly blending radical design with ergonomics. These works showcase not only her proficiency in Blender and Fusion 360 but also her technical foresight: predicting material behavior during virtual modeling with 0.03mm precision.

The collection garnered high praise from eminent figures. Academician Jianmin Meng of the Chinese Academy of Engineering noted: ” transforms industrial manufacturing into emotional expression. By reinventing traditional craft through digital means, she harmonizes artistic beauty with technological ethics and sustainability – an undeniable new force in contemporary design.”

Professor Graziana Laura Maellaro of Fondazione Milano concurred: “Her work radiates exploratory spirit and perceptive depth. From the mask’s architecture to the bags’ futuristic utility, she forges profoundly mature connections between form, function, and the human body.”

Jinyan Yu’s Milan debut transcends personal achievement, marking a powerful statement for China’s emerging design vanguard. Anchored in “Liquid Aesthetics,” her technologically sophisticated creations illuminate limitless possibilities at the art-technology nexus, charting an inspired new course for digital fashion’s evolution.
