Diesel menswear SS ’22: a psychedelic journey

On the last day of Milan Fashion Week, Diesel presented its Spring/Summer 2022 collection through a short film. Glenn Martens debuts for the first time as creative director of the OTB group brand, with a line in which denim takes the spotlight.
Diesel’s short film is a journey through time, a contemporary interpretation of the brand’s history, blending an all-gender approach with a more traditional component. Made in collaboration with artist and director Frank Lebon, to the tune of composer and musician Leon Vynehall, the film blurs the boundaries between reality and dream.
In four different settings that follow one another in about 8 minutes of video, are presented the garments of the new collection. From a ballroom to a lunar landscape, Martens gives shape to the Diesel universe by exploring the unknown.

Denim garments are invariably the new line’s focus. There are jackets, shorts and shirts in every shade of denim; the same fabric is then used to create inserts, belts and the very special 5-pocket denim with integrated boots. Another motif repeated on blazers, hats and long trench coats is laser printing, which creates a trompe l’oeil effect of overlapping and stitching.

As an evidenced of the upcycling techniques, materials and draping, experimentation is at the heart of Diesel’s spring/summer creations. The new collection includes the introduction of a sustainable line, the Diesel Library, which the creative director will reintroduce every season to underline the company’s new mantra towards sustainability.
“The big task and reward at Diesel is to create garments that have a certain universality
and at the same time maintain the irreverent spirit of the brand. I think a lot of people from
the outside might say that my work is more about the concept, and that at DIESEL I really
enjoyed fusing, in a way, accessibility with art. This is just the beginning, a reflection of a
still upside down world that is seeking its balance in a new reality.” – Glenn Martens

With his first collection for Diesel, Glenn Martens invites the viewer to enter a new dimension and experience the psychedelic concept of his creations at first hand.
