JW Anderson menswear SS ’22

Yesterday Jonathan Anderson presented his new collection for the brand that takes his
name, during the first day of Paris Fashion Week.

Anderson talked about the new line in a video posted on the brand’s instagram channel, stating: “This season we’ve focused on this idea of the glorification of being what you are or what you want to be, or the idea of the privacy of the individual.”

In fact, the real message of the collection is precisely related to the idea of “normality”, a
condition of which we have been deprived for over a year. Garments are not the real
protagonists of Anderson’s Spring/Summer ’22, but rather people and their individuality.

The collection, that have been shot by photographer Juergen Telle, was presented through many different types of frames, which contained within them the photo of a certain look rather than another. The intent was to add a nostalgic streak to the presentation, evoking the photos that were taken to us when we went to school.

It’s no coincidence that on many garments we can catch that subtle reference to the 90s, as in the sweatpants or cable knit sweaters.

It’s hard not to notice the strawberry, an element that Anderson included on several pieces in the collection, taking inspiration from an 18th century painting of a squirrel eating an acorn next to a bowl of strawberries.

The JW Anderson SS’22 creations are audacious, experimental, yet comfortable and
The line colors range from bright acid yellow, cerulean or poppy red, to more delicate lavender, beige and pink.

Among the most playful looks is the pillow dress, through which the designer ironically refers to the famous pillow dress challenge, the social media challenge launched during the pandemic. With the Spring/Summer 2022 collection, Jonathan Anderson feels a responsibility to accentuate the importance of normality – a concept we’ve learned not to take for granted anymore – through his clothing!
