Marni Ready-to-Wear SS22

More than just a presentation, Marni’s spring-summer 2022 collection was a real event. Francesco Risso, head of the creative direction of the brand, put on a show that saw about 400 people wearing the creations of Marni

The spring-summer 2022 collection, in fact, was not only reserved for models, but involved everyone, even the guests, in what appeared rather as a collective experience, finally together after months of unfortunately necessary distances.

The original idea according to the designer, “was about going back to the practice of what we do, which is making clothes for people, one to one”.

Moreover, it was not just about fashion; the show was the combination of collaboration between different professionals. Dev Hynes to the music, Mykki Blanco accompanied the event with one of his poems, without excluding Zsela’s musical performance.

The main threads of the collection were two: stripes and daisies. “Stripes are strongly associated with direction, where daisies are new beginnings and resilience; they’re banal concepts”, told Risso. Banal though, it is not the adjective that comes to mind when looking at the garments. These two fantasies were accompanied by a color palette – dominated especially by blue and yellow – anything but boring or trivial.

The collection was mainly composed of sinuous striped dresses, oversized jackets, blazers, and ponchos. There were also caftans, shawls and cardigans soft and comfortable. Daisies, on the other hand, appear towards the end; they are embroidered on knitted dresses, juxtaposed as patchworks, or hand-painted as in the final dress.

The return to the catwalk was not the classic return to normality; the show was not a digital event as it was not a live one, it was rather a new formula, translated into common experience, who really expressed how great is the power of fashion in uniting people.
