Rick Owens, whose fashion shows has always been over the top, experimented more intimate way of presentation, for his Spring Summer 2021 Menswear collection. The designer, together with the model Tyrone Dylan Susman, alone in the studio, mix and match clothes, style them and shoot them by using the phone only, and also exchange opinions on them. This is how things get done, seems to be what Owens says, here is where ideas come from. Inspiration comes indeed from the world around us and from people we meet every day. Owen himself underlines it and adds that, in his work, the only thing that matters is that ideas should be genuine and original.
He has a genuine creativity indeed, one of the best example in todays’ fashion scene – Fashion with capital F, which is not apparel. In this collection we find as well a good part of auto-reference: Owens picked, more or less deliberately, from his past creations. The very good part is that garments from three, four, eight years ago, are still very modern. Everything changes but nothing does it really, which is especially true when it comes to strong and iconic labels.
Sensuality is a strong part of Owens’ work. Together with blazer and basic black pants, we find tight tops, knitted with transparency, deep necklines and leather garments. There are several street style’s looks as well, composed of sweaters and jogging pants. In the last part, the collection opened up to pastel colours and to prints: stripes and squares, on Owens’ pieces, are as much trasgressive as metallic platform boots.
