Every Thom Browne’s show is rather scenic. For Menswear Spring Summer 2021 the presentation video becomes even “epic” and, if on the one hand it has many, many features that inscribe it in the recognizable style of the American designer, on the other hand it is very innovative and unexpected.
At the center of the scene is the American singer Moses Sumney: beautiful and sculpted like classic statues, Sumney is a modern god, with nose piercings and a draped skirt, covering the lower part of his body, completely covered with sequins.
The theme of sport is recurring in Browne and this season’s Menswear collection seems to stage the opening of the Olympics, just as the designer would have imagined it, if the pandemic had not chance all the balance. Sumney sings his single Monumental and his voice is enchanting.
Thom Browne’s video is aspirational but exalts the human body which, in any form, must be at the center. Of our love, of our care and especially of modern fashion, which must perhaps return to a more human scale.
