Prada Ready-to-Wear SS22: the rediscovery of seduction

With the Prada spring-summer 2022 collection – created by the wonderful creative duo Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons – we have the confirmation of the emergence of a new trend. Sensuality and seduction are back on the catwalk, perhaps an emotional response to the pandemic from COVID-19.

The designers have named this collection Seduction, Stripped Down imagining the creations as a banner for new beginnings. “We thought of words like elegant—but this feels so old-fashioned. Really, it’s about a language of seduction that always leads back to the body. Using these ideas, these references to historical pieces, the collection is an investigation of what they mean today.”

Historical pieces analyzed here, bras and corsets, are combined with simple sweaters or denim jackets, reinterpreting the codes that in the past more defined femininity.

The sensuality is evident in the laced clothes on the back, from which appears some lingerie. Same clothes have a slit on the knee and extend in length on the back; so they resize a purely classic garment through new volumes and dynamism.

A constituent part of this fashion “investigation” is undoubtedly the combination of different materials and fabrics, particularly evident from the leather jackets and the satin of mini skirts.

It seems that the trend of the moment is to return to seduction and sensuality. All brands react to the challenge in different ways and Prada is no exception. The ability to reinterpret is one of the many keys to the success of the brand, and this time, sensuality knows how to stand out in the asymmetries of volumes and fabrics.

But it is also a lifestyle that goes against the tide, and in this Raf Simons and Miuccia Prada are masters. The fact that the collection was presented through a video format from Milan and Shangai without the classic accompaniment of photos says a lot.

We just have to wait and see what will be the next small, but decisive revolutions according to Prada style.
