Everything Pier Paolo Piccioli puts his hands on becomes precious. It probably is his natural ability to see beauty and translate it in a more accessible language for everybody, or maybe it is because of his delicacy and the simple fact that genius minds, when cultivated in the appropriate places and conditions, elevate on everything else. So much so that Valentino is (still) today one of the top brand worldwide and this is also due to Mr Valentino himself, who has been able, when the time came, to pick the right successors leaving his empire in modern and enlightened minds.
What we like the most, about Piccioli’s work, is its authenticity. Piccioli’s genius is immediate and apparently effortless, and this is evident in the latest lookbook for the resort 2021 collection, photographed by the designer himself with his number one inspirational muse, Mariacarla Boscono. Piccioli said his goal with the campaign was to communicate a feeling of intimacy, “a sentiment of individual connection, of emotion”. And added: “I decided to photograph the collection myself because it seemed more coherent in this moment to send out a message with no filters, no manipulation, no other interpretation or mediation […] I was interested in focusing on was what I’ve missed most in this confinement— the simple feeling of human connection, of shared love and friendship”.
The Resort collection, called Simplicity, is mad of genuine clothes: the focus is, as usual, on shapes, cuts and, of course, colours – solid and full, together with embroideries. All looks are beautiful and wearable, suitable for the everyday life even if unique. It is a love message from Piccioli to all his consumers, in order to let them re-discover the beauty of a special garment, loved and curated in all details, able to accompany us in the disenchantment of modern life.
